Quantifying Truth:
The τ Of Erudition
The DOH Center's Institute of Comparative Irrelevance has been searching critical ephemera for evidence of human development and self-definition, through cultural expressions as the surest guage to the health and evolution of society as an autopoietic entity. Evidence of autopoiesis can be extracted from obviously intellectual statements using the value of τ, as the expression of the well-known Erudition Ration, first explained by Dr. L.A. Heplby, the DOH Center's Director of All Things Mathematical.
Evidence: Simpsons Episode -- The Road to D'OHwhere
Setting: Inside Homer's brain
Situation: Homer is having an argument with himself and his own internal alter-egos. One such alter ego is "Intelligent Homer", whom he says he has killed. The camera pans left to show a dead version of Homer wearing a mortar board hat and a tweed sport coat with dark elbow patches. Around Homer is written a statement, forming the basis of our analysis.
The Statement: Ontogeny Recapitulates Phylogeny
τ = 4.33 (via the Erudition Ratio: {4, 5, 4} / (3))♠
Interpretation:
The origin and development of the individual summarizes or acts as a metaphor for the development of the species as a whole, both reflecting developments in the wider society and creating specific pointers to as yet unnoticed developmental trends.
Matt Groenig clearly means that the study of our own nature of being allows a higher metaphysical feedback loop into the development of the species, meaning that we have the potential to influence our own evolution. Homer J. Simpson represents the failed ability within all of us to attain a higher level of development through positive self-reflection.
Further the exceedingly high value of τ indicates the irrefutable quality of the argument.
♠ The Erudition Ratio follows a well-established formula.

∃ a ψ, s/t ψ∈Ψ, and Ψ∈Τ
ψ represents the value of the number of syllables in each element Ψ of the theoretical statement set Τ.
Since Τ = {Ψ1, Ψ2, ... &Psiμ},
we can also say Τ = {ψ1, ψ2, ... &psiμ}, where μ represents the total number of terms in the set Τ.
Since τ is the level of erudition established by the theory, Τ, it follows that:
{ψ1, ψ2, ... &psiμ} |

When making her discovery, Dr. Heplby warned that, although the τ never lies, there are those base and unthinking elements of society who try to manipulate the τ by using non-words like "misunderestimated" to create an artifically high syllable content. This is not the true τ.
